Snow Balm is a unique formula developed by Dr. Howard over 47 years ago.  Snow Balm was a labor of love, because he was trying to perfect a treatment for his own children.  His children had been suffering from diaper rash and he was not satisfied by the selection of ointments that were available on the market.  So he went to the task of developing an ointment of his own.  Upon developing this formula and using it on his own children, he saw how well his formula had worked and decided that he should make this diaper rash ointment available to his patients and friends. 

What makes Snow Balm Different?

                Snow Balm incorporates an ingredient that is recommended by most pediatricians, Zinc Oxide.  What makes our formula different from the other ointments with Zinc Oxide is in the percentages.  We use 8.5% Zinc Oxide.  We have found that at this percentage there is enough Zinc Oxide to heal the rash without causing further skin irritation.  Some ointments on the market contain Zinc Oxide levels of 40%, which is the maximum allowable limit by the FDA.  Ointments with these high levels can put babies with sensitive skin under undue stress and irritation.   We have had parents tell us that when using products that contain these high levels of Zinc Oxide that their baby would scream and showed signs of pain and discomfort.   So the bottom line is "more is not always better."

Snow Balm is a superior moisture barrier.  We use the highest quality ingredients and watch over each batch to insure the proper consistency and texture.  One such attention to detail is the Lanolin that we use in Snow Balm.  We use Lansinohâ lanolin, Lansinohâ is a 100% pure hospital grade modified anhydrous lanolin and is the only ointment endorsed by the La Leche League. 

                Snow Balm was designed to work with your baby's skin.  Our formula soothes on easily and moisturizes as it protects.  The unique formula allows absorption into the skin and creates less residue to clean up at each diaper change.  As you already know, some ointments are very thick and create a greasy film with has to be scrubbed off with rubbing and detergents, causing further skin breakdown.  Snow Balm's formula absorbs and cleans-up easily.  Most often all you need is a little warm water to rinse away any residue and body fluids that may be present.  Usually the only time you will need to use a mild soap is when your child suffers from a bout of diarrhea and needs a little more attention. 

Snow Balm also includes an ingredient usually not found in other diaper rash ointments.  The ingredient, Thymol Iodide, is an added feature to our formula.  This ingredient has a mild antiseptic action and, in combination with the rest of the formula, helps heal those stubborn rashes that just don't go away with other ointments. 

                Last but not least, Snow Balm's formula is kept simple.  We do not add artificial fragrances.  Fragrances are not needed and can cause allergic and irritation problems.   The only fragrance that you will notice in our formula is the natural smell of the lanolin and the other ingredients.

Is Snow Balm just for Babies?

As we have been discussing, Snow Balm is a very effective ointment in the treatment of diaper rash, but it also has uses for patients of all ages who suffer from rashes associated with incontinence.  We have been distributing Snow Balm to area hospitals, nursing homes, and care givers for years, which have been using our product for the treatment of rashes associated with incontinence and chaffing.  The composition of the rashes is virtually identical, which is why Snow Balm works so well.   Patients like the fact that Snow Balm goes on easily and most importantly cleans-up just as easily.   They have also stated they like that there is no added fragrance and that it does not easily stain clothing.  Because of the success in these facilities and the comments of Snow Balm users we feel confident that Snow Balm is an effective ointment for use on patients of all ages who suffer from rashes associated with incontinence.

Buy at your local Pharmacy!

If you would like to purchase Snow Balm from your local pharmacy or store, please contact that store or pharmacy and request that they carry Snow Balm.  Relay your experiences and how our product compares to the nationally marketed items.  Independent pharmacies are usually the easiest avenue for getting product in your area.  Although, we do distribute to Rite Aid, Eckerd and Wal-Mart stores in our area, so it does not hurt to ask the chain stores as well. After making contact with your pharmacy manager, please relay our information and then email us that persons name and phone # so we may contact them with our product information.  This process does take time so you may want to place a small order while we work on getting Snow Balm into your area stores.
